Eugenia jambolana: Seeds of 'jamun' significantly reduce blood sugar levels and decrease the levels of blood glucose, blood urea and cholesterol. They increase glucose tolerance and levels of total proteins and liver glycogen and also decrease the activities of liver enzymes in experimental diabetic rats.
Gymnema sylvestre: Gymnema sylvestre extract has hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic activity in long-term treatment and is also capable of regenerating β-cells and hence it could be used as a drug for treating diabetes mellitus. Because it has regenerating ability of β-cells, at least the people in the earliest stages of the disease could be treated to delay or prevent full-blown clinical diabetes.
Momordica charantia: Physiological experiments have shown that M. charantia can stimulate insulin secretion from the endocrine pancreas and elicit glucose uptake in the live. It is quite effective in reducing both fasting and post-prandial blood sugar levels.
