Description: The plant is generally branched, spreading and leaves are hairy, strongly odorous, flowers are five petaled and yellow in colour. Fruits are berries and are usually scarlet, red or yellow in colour. The shapes vary from round to oval and elongated to pear shaped.

Chemical Composition: Besides water it contains carbohydrates, Citric and Malic Acids. It is a rich source of potassium and magnesium. It also contains Vitamin C, Vitamin B1 and B3. It also contains lycopene, flavonoids and polyphenols.

Properties: The skin propective activity of tomato is due to the carbohydrate, α-hydroxyacids (AHA) and vitamin contents of tomato. It absorbs water and keeps the healthy moisture level of skin. They prevent transepidermal water loss from  and reduce dehydration.
