Botanical Name: Pterocarpus marsupium Roxb.
Family: Leguminosae

Description: It is a medium to large; deciduous tree that can grow up to 30 meters tall. It turns the water blue as soon as it comes in contact with it. The plant species is native to India, Sri Lanka and Nepal. It was particularly found in certain areas of the Western Ghats.

Chemical Constituents: Epicatechin, pterosupin, liquiritigenin, isoliquiritigenin, marsupol, marsupinol, carpusin, epicatechin, pterostilbene, kinotannic acid, beta-eudesmol, kinoin, kino-red.

Properties: Consumption of this herb helps in lowering the glucose and lipid levels in the body.It helps in preventing rapid cell proliferation and therefore induces apotosis in cancerous cells. It causes rapid lowering of blood sugar levels in diabetics.This herb has got antihelminthic properties.The astringent nature of this herb helps in curing dental conditions like toothache.It has strong anti-hyperlipdemic properties which therefore help in lowering total cholesterol, bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the body.
