Description: It is found throughout India especially in warmer areas. It is a creeper that spreads across the ground and may climb a tree. Leaves are 3-4 inches long and deep green in colour.  Fruits are fleshy and embedded into the spikes. Flowers are monecious and grow on different plants.

Chemical Properties: Four compounds, piperine, pipernonaline, guineensine, and the isobutylamide were isolated from the extract of the flowering plant Piper chaba.

Properties: It is used in loss of appetite, cough, asthma, hiccup, liver disorders, piles, anemia.
