Description: It is large tree and found throughout the deciduous forest. It has long leaves which are arranged in reverse directions. Flowers have mild fragrance and fruits are paired and cylindrical in shape. The bark of the tree is rough and grayish brown in colour.

Chemical Composition: The bark of this plant contains conessine, kurchine, kurchicine, holarrhimine, conarrhimine, conaine, conessimine, isoconessimine, conimine, holacetin and conkurchin.

Properties: This plant has both gut stimulant and relxasant activity probably by stimulating the calcium channels and Histamine receptors and is thus extremely effective in gut motility disorders like irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhoea and abdominal colic. It is also effective against amoebiasis.
