English Name: Indian Bay Leaf, Indian Cassia Lignea
Botanical Name: Cinnamomum tamala Nees & Eberm.
Family: Lauraceae

Description: Cinamomum tamala is a moderate sized vergen tree attaining aheight of 8 m, and a girth of150 cm. Its bark produces mucilage. Leaves lanceolate, glabrous; alternately placed, opposite and short stalked. 3-nerved from the base.
Chemical Constituents:  Methyl eugenol , eugenol, trans-cinnamyl acetate  and Beta-Caryophyllene are the major components. Cinnamaldehyde , Tans-cinnamyl acetate and Ascabin are also found.

Properties: It has analgesic, astringent, carminative, digestive, stomachic, emetic, diuretic, anti inflammatory, anti oxidant, antibacterial and anti fungal properties.It is useful in the treatment of high blood sugar, migraine, headaches, gastric ulcers, rheumatism, colic, amenorrhea
